Some participants of the Bitcoin 2021 event in Miami tested positive for COVID-19. After they returned home from the conference they took the test. So, this disaster led to a wave of negative media response. And also, in social media thoughts it could turn into a “super spreader event.”

Bloomberg named Miami Bitcoin a “Covid hot spot” as Gizmodo reported the conference “may be the latest COVID-19 super spreader event.”

Arcane Research chief investment officer Eric Wall was among the participants who got the virus. He tweeted about it on Thursday that he went through a CT scan. After suffering from a “high fever” and “chest pains,” with doctors suspected that he may have a blood clot in his lungs. The doctors found nothing, and so he went back home to rest.

Luke Martin of automated trading software developer Coinist also tested positive for COVID-19.

As stated by to CNBC, at least 12,000 people attended the event. They didn’t need to prove that they took the vaccine. Or even they didn’t wear mask. This event was for three days at Miami’s Mana Wynwood convention center. There were a lot of people while social distancing wasn’t even a concern.

The Event and The COVID-19 cases

This event was Miami’s first major conference since all the drama for the pandemic. As claimed by New York Times report. The lines to get to the building “stretched for more than a mile.”

Miami mayor and Bitcoin advocate Francis Suarez talked at the event. And he was mentioned on-stage as “probably the most unreliable politician in all of America” and “the mayor of the meccas of freedom.”

Social media reports believe that the number of participants and those who have positive tests may be higher. Influencer Mr. Whale estimated this event has more than 50,000 attendees.

Bitcoin 2021 was not the first crypto conference to have COVID-19 cases. Torus Labs co-founder and CEO Zhen Yu Yong are telling attendees of the Ethereum Community Conference in Paris to take the test. Moreover, ETHLondonUK Hackathon made people to take the test. That was in early 2020 when he was diagnosed with the coronavirus after participating in the events.
